A lot of cities around the world have architectural structures that serve as symbols or defining landmarks. New York has the Empire State Building, San Francisco has the Golden Gate Bridge, Paris has the Eiffel Tower, St. Louis has the Gateway Arch and so on. Naples, Florida doesn’t have any towering skyscrapers or ocean spanning bridges, but it does have something very special. The Naples Pier.
The Naples Pier is one of the most popular attractions in Naples, it even greets people on the “Welcome To Naples” signs as you enter the city. The Naples Pier was built in 1888 as a freight and passenger dock and stands as a community landmark that stretches 1,000 feet out into the Gulf of Mexico. Narrow gauge train rails spanning the length of the pier use to transported freight and baggage in the early 1900’s. Part of the structure as well as the post office located on the Naples Pier were destroyed by fire in 1912. It was rebuilt after damage by hurricanes in 1910, 1926 and 1960, and remains a public symbol of the area’s history to this day. Throughout the last 50 years it has remained steadfast, only experiencing minor damage from the violent summer storms that sometimes pass by the southwest Florida coast.
Being that the pier is such focal point of Naples, we thought it fitting to showcase some of the best photos we could find of it. Here are 10 Naples Pier photos that will leave you inspired to plan your next vacation to Naples, Florida!
10 Awe-Inspiring Photos Of The Naples Pier
Today, the Naples City Pier no longer serves as a dock for boat traffic but is instead the most popular place in Naples for fishing. From sunrise to sunset, avid anglers line the pier with their rods and buckets of bait, hoping to score a good catch for the day. Unlike elsewhere in Naples, fishing from the pier does not require a state fishing license as the city of Naples purchased a bulk license that covers anyone who casts a line off the pier.
